Discover the history of Cabanas de Tavira
Are you considering choosing Cabanas de Tavira as your destination for your next holiday in the Algarve? Learn a little more about the history of this charming village located in the eastern Algarve.
With a history dating back to 1734, Cabanas de Tavira has been part of Portuguese culture for more than three centuries. In that year and in this locality, the journey in the tuna fishing industry began, giving rise to the first picturesque huts used to store fishing equipment. For more than two decades, these huts served as seasonal residences for fishermen.
Between 1757 and 1758, some fishermen began to live permanently in these huts, which contributed to the evolution of Cabanas into the vibrant village we know today. With the appearance of octopus fishing, a decisive leap was made for the development of the village of Cabanas, driven by the arrival of fishermen looking for new job opportunities over the years.

In 1970, tourism arrived in Cabanas de Tavira with the construction of the first tourist development. After the Carnation Revolution, the decades were marked by the construction of new buildings and summer commerce flourished, especially on the avenue, with the opening of restaurants, local shops and other services. The Golden Club Cabanas was born a few years later, in mid-1984.
